Cloth Diapering
For a long time, I used cloth diapers. But, I struggled with feeling in over my head. Especially with twins. So, the thought of extra loads of laundry was just a tad overwhelming. However, I recently started considering it for a few reasons. First, because I don't know if I will be able to get my hands on any disposable diapers, so, I may HAVE to use cloth. Second, it really DOES save money! Case in point: I found 60 inserts on EBAY for just $37!!! I found lots of covers for between $15 and $100! It costs about $50 a month to diaper the twins. And, that's WITH finding coupons and working to find the best price! This is one Lot of diapers that's a great find! All you need to get started!
Here are a few of my observations over the years:
1. I prefer the BumGenius Flip Diaper covers because you can use pretty much any insert without the hassle of stuffing a pocket diaper. That's just annoying. LOL. Plus, you don't need as many covers because you can use one a few times if it's not soiled. Unlike a pocket or All-In-One which requires that you throw the whole thing in the wash.
2. Pre-Folds are harder to work with, but also a lot less expensive. These are different from 'Flats' in that the center has more layers than the sides. I'm not a big fan of flats at all. I still like the Charcoal Bamboo or simple liners the best. Some brands I did like besides the Charcoal Bamboo were: Grovia, Best Bottom,
3. Diaper Liners are a LIFESAVER!
4. If you buy used, you will want to strip your diapers first. Put no more than 25 into a load at a time and no need to soak, just use HOT water. This stuff is awesome!
5. Be sure to wash in a natural detergent. Despite what people may say, Normal detergent is NOT good for baby's skin. Even the free & clear. You are welcome to try it, but, I have heard tons of Moms share that it caused skin issues. I use this Thieves Detergent for mine. I use about 1/4 capful or dilute it into 2 bottles and add water (it's super concentrated!) and then use 1/2 capful. Here's some helpful information on what to look for in detergents in general. Common Laundry Detergents
So, just in case you can't find disposables, there are a few tips to help you pick out some cloth diapers. ;) Happy Wednesday MaMas!!
