Chaos, Rest, and Starting Over

Image
You know the days? The ones where life just bowls you over and, there you stand. It’s 1AM and you feel like you haven’t made ONE. SINGLE. DENT. in the work load for the day! I barely got my kids in bed (11:15 PM friends!). I don’t like them going to bed that late ever! (Except maybe on New Years Eve). I mean, who puts their kids to bed THAT late?! All the crazies, right? Apparently I was wrong on that, because I'm pretty sure I'm not crazy. That pile of laundry? It's on OUR bed. Not the guest bed. (We don’t have one of those. Well, we do, it’s an air mattress. We like our friends and like them visiting. And, someday, they will have a guest suite if I can manage it. But that’s a rabbit trail...) The bed doesn't even have sheets on it yet! I took them off to wash them. (Yes, I was going to do 15 loads of laundry in ONE day! I KNOW it’s crazy guys! I really do, so maybe I AM crazy. LOL But that’s how I roll. I set unrealistic goals and welll.... THIS!) The toys n...

Homemade Mayo

Image
As I looked at jar after jar of mayo in the store I found myself becoming more and more discouraged. Every one of them had something in it that I didn't want in MY mayo from sugar to 'natural flavor'. I mean what IS Natural Flavor anyway?! I would really like to know what I am putting into my body here. But you really can't know what that is, and they don't have to tell you. It's proprietary.... Natural Flavor often contains things that can disrupt your endocrine system, digestive system, and immune system. So, I decided to make my own. And, I was pleasantly surprised by how simple it really was! Here's the recipe for you! You will need: 2 Large Organic Eggs (AT ROOM TEMPERATURE) 2 TBS Organic Digon Mustard 2 TBS Red or White Wine Vinegar 1/4 tsp pink sea salt (or more to taste) 2 Cups neutral flavored oil (like grape seed or safflower) 3-5 drops Lemon Vitality Essential Oil (You can get yours here .) Tips for New Moms

Image
I love this little quote. I have said this all too many times. But how do you describe Motherhood to a new Mom? How do you tell her how beautiful and amazing it is, but also not sugar coat it? I'm going to give it my best shot friends! Here goes! 1. Your husband does not instinctively know how much help you need. You have to ask (not just "I need help." But, "I need you to take the kids for one hour a day so I can regain my sanity." Or, "Can you do the dishes after dinner today?" or, "Can you help pick up?" Right after baby is born, you need to ASK for this, "Can you take care of dinner and laundry and keep the house clean every day for a week or two?") He really just doesn't know. And, that's ok. Just ask. He probably feels clueless (and maybe a little pushed aside). 2. You will not sleep much at all and it will surprise you how much that affects your mood. So don't feel guilty for taking naps. If the house is a mes...

A Heart of Praise

I used to wonder how anyone could praise God when they felt hopeless. I never understood it, but I sure knew how to fake that. I would say all the time, "I just have that peace that passes understanding". I figured it was something I was just supposed to have. So, I stuffed how I really felt, and faked peace. I'm sure people saw through it and knew. But I sure felt that I was safe. It wasn't until shortly before Christmas of 2016 that I really understood that it's a REAL thing. Like, really and totally real! I remember the night vividly. I was working on my business and realized that I had already laid it all on the line and there was nothing else that I could do for that month (it was the last day of the month). So, I decided to go and pray.  I'm so thankful that I took that time. Because it was in that time that I went before God and was still on purpose, that He did something beautifully magnificent in me. I confessed to Him that I had handled some...

Redeeming Lost Time

Have you ever felt like you are just losing time with your kids? like it's just slipping away? Or, maybe, you, like me feel like one or more of your kids are more distant from you than the others. And you wonder why. Before I get into this, I want to say one thing. I'm not sharing a sob story here. I'm not trying to get pity or make people feel bad for me. What I AM trying to do, is be completely honest and open. The raw kind of honest. I'm sharing because what I went through might help someone else to not feel alone. You are NOT alone. You are not the only Mom who has ever felt like you are failing at every turn. You are not the only Mom who feels clueless sometimes about how to reach your kids. YOU are the BEST Mom for your kids. Believe it, tell yourself over and over. I stumbled through my days just wondering WHY this little human God had given me couldn't just do what he had been told! I've told him a THOUSAND times not to do this or that, and, still, h...

Though Sorrows Like Sea Billows Roll

November 20, 2014. A date forever etched in my life as a day that God sent answers to prayers I had long taken before Him. Hopeless and alone, I was just trying to survive being a Mom and Wife. Faking being fine, and hiding my inward, daily struggle, I stumbled along. Failing at being a Mom daily and wishing I could just escape it all. I was doing the best that I could with what I had.  It was on that fateful day, in desperation for SOMETHING, ANYTHING to change I made the leap to purchase something that changed everything. I didn't know as I scraped together spare change, re-adjusted my grocery plan, and thanked a couple of people for a little Birthday gift, that God was moving in a VERY special way. I still felt hopeless, desperate, and alone. Oh so alone. But I made that leap in faith. And I am oh so glad that I did.  It wasn't until recently that I realized God had been walking beside me every step of the way. In that moment, he didn't just give me a ticket to bette...
